A buildable wardrobe is easy to create. It does require some thought and planning. However, you will soon discover that it is so worth it.
Years ago, I read an article on how to build your wardrobe around a particular color with a few pieces of clothing. I was very impressed with the whole idea. So, I made a plan and followed through it. It helped me with my cooperating outfits to wear to work and to special events.
When creating a buildable wardrobe, you want to start with one basic color. Then, you build the rest of your wardrobe around this color. Lots of people start with a solid, neutral color such as black, brown or navy. As you build your wardrobe, you may want to add another solid color to give more variety to your collection.
The idea is to have a few keys pieces in the chosen solid, neutral color. Those key pieces might be a couple of pair of pants, a skirt, a sweater, and jacket. Next, you would want to add a couple of blouses in another solid or mixed color that matches your selected key pieces. Shoes, scarves, handbags, and jewelry can be accessoried to match your chosen items.
Due to my chosen day job, my chosen solid color is black. Over the years, I have added navy as my secondary color. When buying clothing or accessories, I am always thinking about how the piece would fit in with what I already have. Over the years, the buildable wardrobe has saved me time and money.
When choosing clothing for your buildable wardrobe, you do need to consider your own personal style. Do you have a dramatic flair? Or are you more traditional? Whatever, your personal style is, you would want to make that a part of your wardrobe.
We do have workplace dress codes that we have to follow. Yet, your wardrobe is an outward expression of you. So, when creating your buildable wardrobe, I highly suggest that you select colors and clothings that you will enjoy wearing.
